The helocopter, sadly, departed without its intended cargo - as few moments later, I learned from a fellow beachgoer and witness that an ocean swimmer had just died as the result of a shark attack as he was swimming with a group of swimmers off the coast of Solana Beach.
The sealion pictured below looked very stressed and I imagine had just escaped an attack itself...

I was relieved to discover it was not you involved in the sad tragedy.
