The shores along Solana Beach were staffed by lifeguards in small boats following orders and advising folks to stay out of the water. Many, like the kayaker, ignored them and enjoyed their usual recreational activities.

fatal shark attack

A helocopter was on the beach in front of Fletcher Cove this morning, which is very unusual and I took the following video...






The helocopter, sadly, departed without its intended cargo - as few moments later, I learned from a fellow beachgoer and witness that an ocean swimmer had just died as the result of a shark attack as he was swimming with a group of swimmers off the coast of Solana Beach.



The sealion pictured below looked very stressed and I imagine had just escaped an attack itself...

Strong Santa Anna winds having been blowing offshore for the past few days bringing warm, dry desert air - and tens of thousands of these poor buggers.

Jules and I completed a brisk 5 mile walk along the beach this morning. Near the end of our sojourn, she wanted photographic evidence of her emotional and physical well-being, in addition to showing off her battle scar.
